Resident Return Visa (Subclass 155 and 157)

Stay Connected to Australia with a Resident Return Visa

Rediscover the joys of living in Australia with the flexibility to travel and visit overseas.

The Resident Return Visa (RRV) allows Australian permanent residents to travel internationally and return to Australia as permanent residents. This visa ensures that you maintain your permanent resident status while traveling abroad.

    Eligibility

    • Must be a current or former Australian permanent resident or former Australian citizen.

    • Must have spent at least 2 years in the last 5 years in Australia as a permanent resident or an Australian citizen. If you do not meet this requirement, you may need to demonstrate substantial ties to Australia that benefit the country.

    • Must have spent at least 1 day in the last 5 years in Australia as a permanent resident or an Australian citizen.

    • Must have compelling and compassionate reasons for leaving Australia.

What You Can Do When You Hold This Visa

When you hold the Resident Return Visa (Subclass 155), you have the flexibility to travel to and from Australia as many times as you wish for up to five years—provided you meet the two-year residency requirement—or for one year if you do not meet that requirement but maintain substantial ties to Australia, all while continuing to live as a permanent resident; alternatively, with the Subclass 157, you can enjoy the freedom to travel in and out of Australia as often as you like for up to three months, ensuring that you remain a permanent resident while cherishing your connections and experiences both abroad and at home.
